The Famous Mustard Pizza |
Salt & Air Cured Roast Beef |
Hand Carved Roastbeef Hoagie |
Located on Laylor Street not far
from Broad, the Sportmans Bar is famous for
it's Mustard Pizza. With onion and garlic this is a
pizza of beauty. Unfortunately, Jimmy, the owner since
the late eighties sold the bar about four years ago.
It still has the pizza but the price has gone up significantly along with the
quality. It's no longer the focal point of the bar. Jimmy also offered
salt & air cured roastbeef that simply melted in
you mouth. There was a time Julio would order a small
pie, onior rings, and a roastbeef hoagie on Friday or Saturday night.
It's a tradgedy that things must change but the memories will always be there !!
Note: On 9/23/2012 Julio & "The Kid" stoped
at the Sportsman on their way to the Trenton Train Station to watch the Eagles game and see what changes have taken place over the last three years. Pay respects so to speak. It's been six years since the Bar
was sold and the new owners have established their own following. Not Bad!
They kept the Mustard Pie and it wasn't burnt at all this time. The Garlic Parm wings
were eatable but not the greatest. All menu references to Roast Beef were gone. However, prices sure have gone up. The beer was super cold and reduced for the Sunday football games. We'll stop again
next time up in Trenton and report in.
Also of note: Jimmy the former owner now resides in Tuckerton
NJ the old residence of Julio just before The Kid was born in the
early 1980's. Enjoy your retirement Jimmy, where ever you are!
On November 8th 2012, Julio & The Kid stopped again at the Sportsmans and
were totally disappointed. There was only one customer, a bartender that
resembled a penis with a watch cap on the end and a menu that had
steak sandwiches for $8.50. I believe it's time for a new watering hole
in Trenton New Jersey for the PASJBHA.
